The molecular and cellular mechanisms involved in prostate cancer progression
towards a hormone-independent and highly invasive, metastatic phenotype, are not well
understood. The impact of prostate cancer in human population is due in part to the lack of efficient methods for early diagnosis and prognosis. The sole biomarker currently in use, the prostatic specific antigen (PSA), is regarded as a biomarker with many inconveniences.
For that reason, it is a priority that new and better biomarkers being developed which can allow an opportune diagnosis, an adequate prediction of the clinical behavior, and/or a better treatment.
